A Healthy Diet With Seafood
Seafood is incredibly good for you.
Eating seafood contributes to a healthier diet and can play an important role in improving the health of people of all ages. Health officials like Health Canada recommend eating seafood twice a week.
Farmed and wild fish offer the same health benefits, so either is an excellent choice. Farmed seafood has the additional benefit of being available fresh and all year round.
Nutrients in Seafood
OMEGA-3 FATTY ACIDS
Omega-3 fatty acids are polyunsaturated fatty acids that are essential nutrients for health. Humans need omega-3 fatty acids to control body functions such as blood clotting and build cell membranes in the brain.
They are also associated with protection against heart disease and possibly strokes. New studies are identifying potential benefits for a wide range of conditions, including cancer, inflammatory bowel disease, and other autoimmune diseases such as lupus and rheumatoid arthritus.
