Production Manager – NL Aqua Services Limited
I prepare routine schedules for new repairs for industry sites, schedule antifoulant treatments, look after the HR component as well as health and safety. I am also in charge of monitoring, ordering, delivering, and organization of feed for various aquaculture companies. We are also responsible for the net washing, net mending, cage making, cage repairs, boom truck, and regular day-to-day operations.
How is your career related to the aquaculture industry?
My business background allows me to manage the day to day operations. My experience I have obtained over the years allows me to carry out all other aquaculture related duties.
What type of service or product do you or your company provide?
Net preparation, cleaning, maintenance, repair, and antifoulant. Plastic welding cage manufacturing and repair. Also, bird cages, steel welding/barge building, harvest tables, boom truck service, mooring system, feed distribution, etc.
What is your educational background and/or work experience and how has it assisted you in this aquaculture career path?
I have a Business Degree/Bachelor of Commerce with concentration in Accounting. My business background allows me to manage the day-to-day operations. My experience I have obtained over the year allows me to carry out all other aquaculture related duties.
What attracted you to your current job?
I applied for this position so I could remain at home near my family. I also love working in such an exciting, growing industry.
What are the benefits of this aquaculture job?
I began working in the industry as a labourer and over the years I have been fortunate to move up to a managerial position. I love the quality of life living in a rural community in NL has to offer. My job also provides me with many more opportunities for promotions within the company.
What is your favourite thing about your job?
I enjoy offering the large variety of services that we currently offer and look forward to expanding in other areas. Our company is very innovative and we expect to grow even larger by keeping new technologies and unique services and experience in mind at all times. It is exciting to be a part of such an exciting industry which offers the region and province a great deal of prosperity and growth.
What advice would you give to people considering job opportunities in aquaculture?
I would certainly recommend training and education in aquaculture and business whenever possible. It enables an individual to take on a broader role with an organization. They should always be eager to train/learn on or off the job and take advantage of any training offered within the organization.
